The idea for a Maine focused true crime podcast had been bouncing around my brain since early 2019.
I’d long been a consumer of true crime podcasts (beginning with Serial, Crime Junkie, Criminal, and beyond), but I rarely heard the stories of my home state and greater New England represented by anyone who had a connection to the place I love so much. It wasn’t until I accidentally moved back to Maine from New York City in 2020 that I finally decided to bring it to life. The time back in my home state gave me the inspiration and motivation to take action.
Dark Downeast combines my journalism background with my passion for storytelling and heart for advocacy. Dark Downeast has since grown from a little side project started in my bedroom closet to a top 20 true crime podcast with 2.4+ million downloads and hundreds of thousands of listeners across the world. More importantly, I’ve been able to lend this platform to dozens of Maine and New England families who deserve justice and answers in their loved one’s unsolved homicide and missing persons cases.
